200 Luas
My moons. Our moons. Our imagination. Our future. That is what 200 Luas is about. Imagine a better future. A world (or worlds) without pollution. Without greed. Without racism.
.
Here, there are only 40 moons, representing London (above) and Rome. Each one is made with carbon on paper, created by continuous friction which is provoked by the vibration of a loudspeaker, outputting pure noise and placed under the paper. The difference between them is ruled by the amount of people exposed to sound pollution in different volumes and from different sources in each of the ten most noisy cities of Europe. More people are exposed to unhealthy noise, more time the carbon vibrates over the paper and more visible becomes the moon.
.
This work is a turning point for me. It states a cycle completed. A path from the ephemeral existence of sound, passing through the search for visual representation, to finally arrive in the presence only matter can achieve. A long and winding road which I enjoyed following and feel very privileged to reach its end. The end, now, is just a new beginning.
.
And I begin being thankful for all the people in this path. Especially Domenico Quaranta and Silvia Papucci, who, since the first time they heard my urge to materialize my sound world, followed that road with me. Domenico was the start, back in 2020, and Silvia, the arrival with this work we created together. In the middle, there are so many names which I prefer to don't write them down here because I will be unfair with someone I might forget.
.
But will also be unfair if not thank the opportunity given for me to expose 200 Luas for the first time. So I thank very much the SECS Gallery, the ABA Carrara and the curators Giovanni Timpani, Silvia Papucci, Veronica Longo
e Miriana Pino for the exhibition. And also friends and colleagues which I feel so honored to be among them. Beautiful souls with great vision. All the love for you all. Selene Bertagnini, Federica Bodda_ Enrico Bani Gianna Lupone Katharina Klein Irene Cordoni Luca de Maria, Ana Maria Nistor, Miao Ma, Simeon Lucer Ferri and Yisheng Zhan.
.
The exhibition lasted until April 7 2023 at the SECS Gallery, in Carrara (IT).
